Music Survival Guide for Active Families

Here are a few tips to make your First Avenue Music adventure both painless and enjoyable.

Student responsibilities:

1. Attendance at all performances and practices. Everything worth anything involves sacrifice. The product requires the process. You must be there.

7th& 8th Grade Band and Orchestra require extra rehearsals.

2.  Practice. Maintenance - (15 minutes), Progress - (25 - 30+ minutes)

3. Communication of dates and times for all practices and performances. Students need to make parents aware of all functions to accommodate rides, clothes, etc.

4.  Be prepared with the right instrument, the right music, and the right clothes.

5.  Provide the director with feedback (positive or negative) at appropriate times. We respect your insights and feelings.

Parent responsibilities:

1.  Encourage your child.  Both in practice time and in preparations for events.

2.  Be on time. We make every effort to give accurate times. I do not ask students to arrive early as a

cushion to latecomers. Help me by respecting all times.

3.  Communicate any conflicts in advance. 2 weeks is ideal.

4.   Come to the performances. They won't ask you but they know that it matters.

5.  (Optional- essential to me) Join the music club and its activities. Meetings are less than an hour, first Tuesday of the month, 8:15 P.M. following the   PTA meeting. No one wants to do everything but everyone can do something. If you have any special talents let us know.

6.   Enjoy the experience; this time in your child's life will never come again.

Parade Dress:  Complete Band uniform - White band shoes, white socks (full ankle), band pants with suspenders, white T shirt, cummerbund, ruffle front, band jacket, band hat with plume.

Ladies - Dress, blouse and skirt, or blouse and dress pants. Any color. Dress shoes. No athletic shoes or jeans.

-Gentlemen-  White Shirt, long tie, dark dress pants, dark socks, dark dress shoes.  No athletic shoes or jeans.  Suits or sports coats optional.
